2003: Southwestern High School Scholarship Winners
June 24, 2008
Jalen recently visited his alma mater, Detroit Southwestern High
School, to announce the recipients of the Jalen Rose Foundation
Scholarships. In the spirit of giving back to a high school that gave
so much to him, Jalen decided to donate five $10,000 scholarships to
high school seniors planning on attending college in the fall of 2003.
Scholarships were based on academics, extra-curricular activities,
recommendation letters as well as an essay explaining the student’s
college goals.
This year’s recipients included:
Shavonne T. Coleman – Grand Valley State University, Actress/Teacher
Kellie Jones – Olivet College, Pre-Medicine
Damion Lyons – Ferris State University, Civil Engineering or Business Administration
DeAnna Weston – Wayne State University, Business Administration
Akrum Dhaifullah – Wayne State University, Pre-Pharmacy
Winners were announced at the Detroit Southwestern High School Annual Honors Ceremony on June 4.
The Jalen Rose Foundation has many goals including, assisting deserving
children in achieving their primary educational and college goals. With
this in mind, Jalen thought it would be a perfect match to create a
scholarship program at the learning institution that helped him get
where he is today.
