DP: Who made a bigger impact on society, the Fab Four or the Fab Five?
JR: The Fab Five, because you can’t duplicate an original-at the end of the day, the Fab Five was the phenomenon.
DP: Music skills: Fab Four or Fab Five?
JR: It has to be the Fab Four, hands down. The Beatles are legendary. Even the Fab Five can’t touch that one.
DP: Give me some tracks off your most-listened-to playlist.
JR: Right now, anything Lil Jon.
DP: Did you see the pictures of Lil Jon when he was in high school?
JR: Yeah, those are hilarious!
DP: His street cred goes right out the window-it’s tough to sound intimidating when you have pictures like that.
DP: Give me five names in the hip-hop Hall of Fame.
JR: Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Jay-Z, KRS-One and N.W.A.
DP: No Run-D.M.C., huh?
JR: Oh, of course, Run … I can’t leave out Run-D.M.C. I think I’ve
seen them perform more than any other artist. I remember having my
adidas, no shoe strings, and going to a lot of stage shows.
DP: You’re one of the few black guys in the NBA who can?t jump. What happened?
JR: Well, a long time ago when I was in high school-a lot of people
don’t know this-I went up for a slam dunk and got clotheslined. I got
carried off the court on a stretcher, went into convulsions, the whole
nine. I was in the hospital for a couple of days. So it’s not that I
can’t dunk, or I’m not willing to dunk. It’s just that dunking doesn’t
excite me as much after that.
DP: Best new trash-talk phrase is what?
JR: I like to say ?mouthwash? when I make a shot on a guy. It’s always good to hit a jumper in their face and say ?mouthwash.?
DP: Remember when ?face? was in?
JR: I used to say ?face.? I used to say ?checkup.? Those are old phrases. I like ?mouthwash.?
DP: You can be one player in the NFL for one game. Who would you be?
JR: I’d like to be Terrell Owens. He’s controversial, but I’d be TO for
a day. Coming to Philly, being on center stage and being with a great
team has allowed him to not only show his game, but to show his
personality. And I wouldn’t mind doing that Desperate Housewives promo!
DP: What if I were going to have a DJ name? What do you think I could bring?
JR: DJ Dom P.
DP: As in Dom Pérignon?
JR: Or we could just call you DJ Bubble.
