Jalen Rose on Facebook

2008: July/August – HOOP Magazine the Fab Five with Jalen Rose & Mike Jones

October 1, 2008

A longtime pop culture aficionado, Jalen Rose pits his personal tastes against some notable personalities. Up this month: Rapper Mike Jones.
FAVORITE MOVIE FEATURING AN NBA PLAYER:
Jalen: The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh… Dr. J was the first true high-flying showman who changed the game.
Mike: I like He Got Game.

FAVORITE SUMMERTIME JAM:
Jalen: [Anything] Dr. Dre. Hip-hop’s most transcendent and influential artist by far (NWA to Eminem).
Mike: “Juicy” by Big Poppa.

FAVORITE KARAOKE SONG:
Jalen: Lupe Fiasco, “Hip Hop Saved My Life.” The lyrics, slow and subject matte are as real as it gets, and the hook is something all music fans will hear and gravitate to – while chopping up the words lolol.
Mike: I used to sing “Back Then: on the karaoke, even before I made it a nationwide success. “Back Then” was the one.

FAVORITE CARTOON CHARACTER:
Jalen: Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids. Those were urban comedic tales that always had brain-stimulating points. This Bill Cosby creation is timeless.
Mike: Bugs Bunny. The marketing that they did on Bugs Bunny was incredible. The “What’s Up, Doc?” – whoever was behind that kept him in front of the people for so many decades. That’s just legendary. You got some names that come and go, but Bugs Bunny is still there.

FAVORITE ICE CREAM:
Jalen: Vanilla. You can’t duplicate an original and what else can be as good as “a la mode” with cake and cobbler, etc.
Mike: I don’t have a favorite ice cream. I like all of them.
