January 2009 — "The glass ceiling has been shattered, officially," says ESPN sports analyst and former NBA star Jalen Rose, who is host of the Heroes Red, White and Blue Ball at the Warner Theatre. "You know, you hear all of the lip service like 'nice guys finish last' … But the election of Barack Obama just destroys all of that." Rose adds, "It makes me want to do better and be a better man." Rose met Obama, who plays hoops when he can, about three years ago and although they haven't gotten on the court together yet, they both joked about being left-handed, he says. — Kelley L. Carter
