2003: JRF Donates $100,000 raised at Celebrity Weekend

June 24, 2008

CelebCkPresBulls3.JPG2003 – This past August, Jalen hosted the Annual Jalen Rose Foundation
Celebrity Weekend here in Chicago. The successful star-studded weekend
included an empowerment seminar for over 400 inner-city teenagers at
the prestigious Harold Washington Library, a comedy show featuring
Cedric the Entertainer at the Auditorium Theatre as well as an All-Star
Charity Basketball Game at the United Center.

The highlight of the weekend was the All-Star Basketball Game as nearly
15,000 fans cheered on some of their favorite NBA players which
included; Paul Pierce, Corey Maggette, Quentin Richardson, Howard
Eisley, Carmelo Anthony, Ricky Davis, T.J. Ford, Bobby Simmons, Maurice
Taylor, the entire Fab Five as well as some of Rose’s current Bulls
teammates. LisaRaye, Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer were also in
attendance as honorary coaches while R&B sensation Ashanti
entertained the crowd during half-time.

Being very involved in giving back to the communities where he has
lived and played basketball, The Jalen Rose Foundation donated proceeds
from the Jalen Rose Foundation Celebrity Weekend in the amount of
$100,000 to five local charities during a pre-game check presentation
on October 18 as the Bulls hosted the Bucks. The Chicago Public
Schools, The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Special Olympics
Illinois, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Chicago
Coalition for the Homeless were on hand to accept a check in the amount
of $20,000, making a positive impact on thousands of lives.
