2008: JRF Announces Five $10K College Scholarships Available for DT Students

June 24, 2008

For Immediate Release… NBA Star and ESPN Broadcaster Jalen Rose Releases 2008 Foundation Scholarship Guidelines – $50,000 in Funds Distributed to Five Detroit High School Seniors.

January 17, 2008, Detroit, MI – The Jalen Rose Foundation today released their guidelines to apply for college scholarships. The Foundation annually awards five college scholarships to Detroit High School Seniors to help them achieve their college dreams. The scholarships, totaling $50,000, will be awarded to high school seniors beginning their college education in the fall of 2008. A minimum of one scholarship will be awarded to a student at Southwestern High School, Rose's alma mater.

"Everyone deserves the opportunity to earn a college degree, and through this program, more students will achieve that goal," said Detroit native Rose. "There is no question in my mind that education is the key to a successful future and I want to help the Detroit community make college a priority for our kids."

"Growing up in a single parent home, my family faced a lot of hardships," continued Rose. "It's important that people with influential roles in society take the initiative to help others in need. I hope that my charity efforts motivate others to get more actively involved in their communities."

Scholarship recipients will be chosen by a committee consisting of Jalen Rose, representatives of The Jalen Rose Foundation, and appointed members of the Detroit community. Decisions will be made based on academic achievement and goals, extracurricular/community activities and financial need. The deadline for Detroit seniors to apply is April 30, 2008 and recipients will be announced in May.

Students can check with their school to receive an application or download a form at www.jalenrosefoundation.org.
